Sauna Experience

A 55-minute self-led contrast therapy session. Experience the heat of the sauna and the chill of the lake.

There are 5 wood-fired saunas available for booking and all 5 saunas are placed in Sauna Corner around M Lake, all changing is in designated male, female and unisex communal change areas by the saunas.

Please note that whilst staff are on duty to help ensure your sauna session runs as smoothly as it can do the lakes are NOT lifeguarded so swimming is at your own risk. Please see our safety page for further information about what we do have in place.

The Sauna experience is 55 minutes long giving you the chance to alternate between the heat of the sauna and the cold lake water throughout that time. We recommend 10 minutes or so in the sauna, remembering to add a scoop of water to the coals during this time and letting the wonderful, steamy scents of our Holistic Kitchen Oils wash over you. There are many physical and mental health benefits to contrast therapy and once you’ve tried it, you are certain to be hooked.

Saunas can be booked as an individual ticket in our group saunas or as a private booking where you have the sauna just for your group.

Please note our sauna experience is for those aged 16 and above only. Anyone 16/17 must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Blue Yonder Sauna

This is our newest sauna with two-tier seating and a large panoramic window looking over M Lake. Crafted by the Yorkshire Hut Company, this sauna has been designed so that those who love a hot, hot sauna can sit on the top tier of seats, and those who like a gentler heat can sit on the lower level, yet everyone gets an uninterrupted view of the lakes.

Steamy Sky View Machiney

Steamy has been made to our specific design by our fabulous friends at the Yorkshire Hut Company. Steamy is our only Sauna to have glass roof panels meaning you can also watch the clouds go by, or star gaze on an evening booking. It also hosts a large window and has beautifully high ceilings making it extremely bright and airy being a spacious Sauna it is available to book for 10 as a private booking. We are keeping the maximum number when booking individually as 8 as experience tells us that this is a good number and the sauna doesn’t become too noisy with chatter.

The heat in this sauna is more intense than Blue Yonder, Lake view or Shepherd's hut, due to the way the air circulates. Sitting away from the coals is cooler and opening the internal door for a few minutes allows the intensity to disperse but please check with fellow users before doing this. Dipping more frequently help too.

Willow Tree Sauna

The Willow Tree sauna was the first sauna and arguably the hottest sauna, made especially for us by The Yorkshire Hut Company. Tucked away in the corner of The M Lake, this stunning sauna, is sited next to a willow tree - it really is quite special. Seating 8, it has a large vestibule to hang your robes and leave your valuables in, and like all our saunas a large decking area and steps leading directly from the decking into the lake. The large window makes it a perfect place to unwind and watch the wildlife go about their business. Individual or private bookings are available for upto 8 for both types of booking.

Shepherd’s Hut Sauna

The Shepherd’s Hut Sauna, which is the original PBF Sauna started life in around 1917 as Shepherd’s hut, came to the farm about 30 years ago and then was lovingly restored to its current sauna glory by Mike. It now also has a wonderful glass door, which means you can see across the lake. This is our smallest and cosiest sauna, and it seats up to 6 people comfortably. This little sauna is a firm favourite with the swimmers who have been with us since the start, and we think it’s simply beautiful.

Lake View Sauna

The Lake View sauna, which came all the way from Estonia has panoramic views from the large glass window. Its low ceilings give a cosy feel yet it still seats up to 8 people very comfortably (or 10 for a private booking). Its large window overlooking the M Lake is the perfect spot to watch the world go by and gives you the chance to spot PBF’s famous kingfishers. When steam is added to the coals this window steams up but quickly de-steams to reveal the fabulous views. In this sauna it is coolest by the window as this is the only sauna where the stove is by the door rather than at the window. Lake view has a less intense heat than the Willow Tree or the Sky view Sauna.

Things to note:

Head to our little reception hut under in the yard, when you arrive.

Please ensure you take water with you and a towel to sit on while in the sauna. It’s also a vital to bring a second towel to dry yourself with afterwards too.

Sauna availability can be seen and bookings can be made via the “Online Bookings” tab.

All Sauna Sessions MUST be pre-booked online.

In September swimming and access to the lakes before and after your sauna for 30 minutes is included in your sauna booking, if you wish to have access to the lakes all day, please book the ticket with lakeside access add-on- this gives you lakeside access form 8am-8pm.

From October onwards all day lake access is included in all Sauna tickets.

Whilst staff are on hand and all emergency first aid trained, we are an unlifeguaded venue which allows those that like to wild swim without constraints, to swim in clean water with no dangerous currents or trap hazards.

You can privately book more than one sauna at the same time. Although we can not change the timetable, so timings available are those shown on the booking page. If you have more than one sauna fully booked for your group, you can swim between saunas during your session. Maximum sauna capacity is not to be breached at any time, though.
